The season of summer and the coolant sharbat. What else you need on a scorching hot afternoon. I was introduced to Sauf Ka Sharbat/ Fennel Seed Sharbat at my in laws house during the month of Moharram ( the first month according to Islamic Calendar) . This sharbat was made specially on the 7th & 9th day of moharram. Whereas throughout India , milk based sharbat known as Moharram Ka Sharbat is made during this time. But we had a different tradition of making this water based sharbat
This sharbat is not any fancy sharbat. I would say simplicity at its best. With only two ingredients and water , you can make it. Basic but full of aromas and flavor.
Sauf / Fennel Seeds
Sugar
We grind fennel seeds with sugar. And our mix is ready. Whenever you need to make the sharbat. Add a spoonful of this mix to cold water. And your sharbat is ready. Maximum immersion time is 5 minutes. This sharbat is served freshly made.

Ingredients
- 50 gm Fennel Seeds
- 50 gm Sugar
Instructions
- Mix & grind to powder.
- Keep in airtight bottle at room temperature
- For Making Sharbat: Add a spoonful to a glass of chilled water. Immerse for 3 to 4 minutes. Sieve and serve
Notes
Has to be served fresh. Cannot be kept for longer time. Taste will change
