Talbina With Spice Mix

Talbina with Spice Mix is a soup or porridge  made up of ground barley flour and considered to have many healing properties. The name is  derived from Arabic word Laban meaning yogurt because of its soft texture and color.

There are many Hadits on the benefits of Talbina. The Messenge (PBUH) said, It soothers the heart of a patient giving relief in some of its distress. It cleanses the ailing heart just as one of you cleans the dirt off his face with water.

Since few months , we have started consuming Talbina for breakfast. It’s nourishing,  fulfilling  and keeps one satiated for longer periods. On one of  my trips to Global Village last year, the shopkeeper selling Talbina was giving us the prepared soup and sprinkling a spice mix to make  it more tasty. We used to have Talbina before but this spice mix was making it  more crunchy and tasty.  I had guessed the ingredients. Roasted Almond & Cinnamon.  But there was one peculiar taste which was making it different. When I asked him about the spice mix, he roughly gave me an idea as to what it was. And the third special  spice was cumin.

For the upcoming Ramadan, we are planing to have this Talbina  for Sehr. The recipe is very easy . I usually make it with milk sweetening it with Honey or Dates paste. Sugar can be used too instead of honey & dates. But we love this natural sweeteners .But lets check the recipe of this mix before making this delicious porridge
