Limonana – A Mid- Eastern Summer Drink is a refreshing & coolant middle eastern drink specially to beat the heat of summers.
Around seven years back , it was one of the many afternoon telephonic conversation with my dear friend Bhumika we started comparing the summers of India with UAE . Our conversation diverted to seasonal food & drinks. Being a Punjabi girl , her insistence that lassi is the drink of summers and with my background of different states I was hell bent on convincing her it was Neebu Ka Sharbat or Shikanji. Both being stubborn girls , we stood our stand and decided that we enjoyed both the drinks equally from time to time. We started discussing as middle east has long summers , there must be some special drink to beat the heat. Bhumika informed me there was one drink named Limonana – A Mid- Eastern Summer Drink
I later googled to explore more about this drink . According to wikipedia, Limonana is believed to be originated in Turkey or Syria. The name Limonana is a mix of two Arabic words. Limo meaning Lemon & nana meaning mint. Some say it is a middle eastern Slush with a mix of lemon , mint & ice. Today I am sharing with you my version of Limonana. This drink can be sweetened using sugar, honey & jaggery too. Nowadays honey has been my top most sweetener for my drinks.
