Sharab Tamr Hendi is a very popular drink in Middle east. Sharab Tamr hendi is a drink made with indian (Hendi) tamarind (Tamr) and consumed in Ramadan. Served in long half filled glasses, I am hooked to this drink and had my first taste of it around ten years back. I love discovering new cuisines and this was something completely new for me.
This is such an easy drink to make with tamarind and sugar. First of all a block of tamarind has to be soaked around 1 hour. Then the seeds and skin has to be removed by straining and then the pulp is mixed with sugar.
Sharab Tamr Hendi is served chilled. I have made lots of variations of this simple drink adding cumin powder, mint and sometimes added honey or dates instead of sugar. But I believe original is the best and no use meddling with authentic flavors.
